Twelve students from around the province have been named to the 2024-25 Youth Council, including Ben Ansell from Central Collegiate.

Youth on the council speak with the Ministry of Education about their experiences with the province’s education system and also provide feedback and ideas.

Ansell is a Grade 12 student and plays on the football and basketball teams at Central Collegiate. He also takes time to volunteer at the hospital.

He said his principal and vice principal expressed an interest in nominating him at the end of last year. “Being nominated by them, and being able to do it, meant a lot to me.”

Ansell said it’s a privilege and honour to be named to the council, and he feels that having youth voices and involvement in the education system is important.

He spoke about upcoming discussions with fellow councilors. “I think I’m really just looking to see what their points of view are, being that they’re from different spots all across the province – more rural areas than here in Moose Jaw – and what their life is at school.”

Ansell added that he’s also interested to learn more about how the education system intends to deal with advances in technology.

The Youth Council was created in 2019.
