Alberta Health Services (AHS) has issued a Boil Water Advisory for a popular Kananaskis Campground - Camp Cadicasu, near the Sibbald Creek Trail. AHS issued the order on September 18 following an earlier verbal order.

The advisory was issued following the discovery of Coliform bacteria in water samples. Tests conducted on September 12 and 16 revealed the presence of the bacteria, making the water unsafe for human consumption. The order underlined violates Section 11 of the Nuisance and General Sanitation Regulation, which requires water intended for public use to be potable.

The camp's owner, Alex Fernandez, has been directed to notify all users of the drinking water supply and post warnings at all water fixtures. Until the water is deemed safe, potable or boiled water must be provided, and food preparation should only use safe water.

According to the camp's website, 'it is a year-round outdoor education centre in Kananaskis where people connect with nature and each other.'

"Camp Cadicasu was voted the Best Children’s Overnight Camp in 2018, 2019 and 2023 by Calgary’s Child Magazine. We were also named in the Top 5 Traditional Camps as part of the Flight Network‘s Top 60 Camps in North America in 2017," the website noted.

The camp has until September 27 to complete maintenance and testing to ensure the water supply is safe, or the advisory will remain in place.
