The Coteau St W and 9th Ave intersection is undergoing updates this week.

You might have noticed workers focusing on the 9th Ave and Coteau St W intersection on South Hill this week.

CanTraffic has been contracted by the City of Moose Jaw to make updates to the lights and install traffic cameras at the intersection.

Bevan Harlton, director of operations with the City of Moose Jaw, said no major changes are happening. “We’ll see some efficiency there in terms of those lights being driven by the cameras. Specifically, you wouldn’t be waiting for timing sequences.”

“The cameras would speak to that light and tell the light to turn red or green to get you on your way.”

He said that they decided to take the opportunity to update the lights while the intersection was closed off for the Infrastructure Renewal Project. Aside from updating wiring and installing cameras, the traffic vaults are also being moved back from the sidewalk.

“We were able to replace those with new traffic vaults, and then moving those let us install four new pedestrian ramps in that intersection.”

Harlton added that the latest update on the Infrastructure Renewal Program on South Hill is that they’re working on the feeder main water main job between 12th and 8th Ave. While Coteau has not yet reopened to traffic, Harlton said it should be open to traffic soon.

“The undergrounds on Coteau are done – we've been done the undergrounds for about a week or two, which I’m very happy to hear.”

Harlton outlined other work completed by the engineering department on South Hill ahead of the opening of the joint-use school expected next year, including:

-paving Coteau St W from 12th to 16th Ave

-road refreshing and improvements on Coteau between 12th to 8th Ave

-paving on Wellington Drive west of 16th Ave

“Wellington will ultimately loop around and serve the new school, and then next year, we’re planning to have 16th Avenue paved, loosely between Wellington and up to Coteau.”
