"It has been absolutely incredible this summer. Here we are in mid-September and the grass looks greener than June a lot of years," says Killarney Auction Mart's Allan Munroe.

"Hay is far easier to source... there is lots of good hay out there with lots of volume.  The cows, it looks like are going to have pasture for quite a while yet," he adds. "The grain prices are certainly to the benefit of the cattle feeder right now."

Killarney Auction Mart has had two fall sales so far now in September. "There have been a lot of yearlings coming in now in the early sales," says Allan Munroe. "We've got very strong prices, very similar to what we had about a year ago.  So, we're seeing thousand-pound steers bringing in north of $3 a pound to $3.05 so it dollars up pretty well."

Munroe says it's going to get busy.

"If prices can hold to year-ago-levels I think that that'll be very good.  For a little while we were thinking they'd be better but right now it looks like it should hopefully stay steady."

"We're really excited to start the fall run here," adds Munroe. "It's nice to start the fall run with lots of feed and good prices so we'll hope for a busy one that's prosperous for everyone."
