Arrest results from call over man lying on school grounds

An unusual napping spot led to the arrest of a man in the early hours of Sunday, September 15.

At 1:20 a.m., Portage la Prairie RCMP received a call that an intoxicated man was laying on the ground at a school in Portage la Prairie. 

Police arrived and located a 26-year-old man and placed him under arrest. 

The suspect was also in possession of a sawed-off firearm. 

Lawrence Daniels of Brandon is charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Possession of a Firearm When Knowing Possession is Unauthorized, four counts of Weapons Possession Contrary to an Order and four counts of Failing to Comply with a Release Order. 

Daniels was remanded and appeared in court on September 16.
