Strathmore RCMP provided a policing report on crime in the town during a town council meeting on Wednesday (Sept. 18).

The report, which is available on the Town of Strathmore's website, laid out the results of several programs and crime statistics between April 1 and June 30 of this year.

Vehicle Theft

According to the report, vehicle theft is down to five incidents throughout the quarter, a drop of 69 per cent from the 14 vehicle thefts at the same time last year. On the other hand, break and enters have increased by 29 per cent from seven incidents to nine.

Of the thefts, one vehicle was recovered in Calgary, one was recovered on the same street that it was stolen on, and one was stolen in a crime of opportunity.

Traffic Safety

During the quarter, collisions were down from 27 to 11 compared to the year before. Injury collisions were also down, from five incidents to one.

In total, there were 114 traffic violations throughout the quarter. Although there were no impaired driving charges laid out in the quarter, there were 18 immediate roadside sanctions handed out, which is when someone's blood alcohol concentration is between 0.05 and 0.079.
