Siksika Nation has announced a new initiative to address homelessness and supportive housing in the community.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed on Thursday (Sept. 19) at the Siksika Support Centre between the nation and Inn from the Cold, a Calgary non-profit that provides programs on homelessness prevention, emergency family shelter, and more.

“This MOU reflects our shared commitment to fostering safe, supportive environments that honor the dignity, culture, and well-being of all families," said tribal manager Richard Sparvier.

"Together, we strive to integrate traditional values, cultural knowledge, and community-led solutions to provide a holistic approach to shelter and care, ensuring that every family receives the support they need to thrive."

The MOU is designed to improve access to shelter and housing opportunities while providing urban cultural space for members of Siksika Nation.

According to Inn from the Cold, both groups will work hand-in-hand to create culturally safe supportive spaces as they work towards a future that supports Indigenous families.
