Westman Youth for Christ is welcoming singer-songwriter-storyteller Steve Bell back to Brandon for their Fall Fundraiser.
"Steve goes all the way back to my days of being in youth and so he's just called us again this year and saying it was a great night last year and asked us ‘Would you like us to come back again?' And I'm like, 'Absolutely!" shares Westman YFC Executive Director, Rena Navid.
“So, he has a new album out and new music. I'm sure he's going to sing some older music but he really is excited to be able to share with us his new his new album," she adds.
Funds raised will go towards the Westman YFC's Uturn program.
"Here in Brandon we have youth coming in off the street or who are experiencing near to homelessness,” explains Navid. “And so, with Uturn they come into an apartment that is clean and they are able to come in and be assigned a case manager who helps them with setting goals that are self-directed and reaching those goals."
"We have 16 units available, though there is currently a waiting list," she continues.
"Each unit is filled with a 2-year commitment. During this transitional housing period, we work closely with our youth. Many of them graduate from grade 12, obtain their driver’s licenses, and secure and maintain jobs. Additionally, there are active recovery programs happening throughout the Uturn programs," explains Navid.
"This is just the tip of the iceberg," she adds. "There’s so much more happening behind the scenes on a day-to-day basis within the Uturn ministry."
