The CancerCare Foundation of Manitoba is wrapping up their summer fundraiser, Lemonade Stands for Hope.

Community Events Manager, Sherelle Kwan, says they were thrilled to surpass last year's total by over $20,000.

"What’s really phenomenal is that the September long weekend is where we usually see a peak, but people continue to do amazing things throughout September," shares Kwan. "Last year, we were able to announce over $100,000 by that point, and as funds kept coming in through the fall, we reached $130,000, which was amazing."

"This year, at this point, we’ve reached $150,000 and counting because people are still sending in their funds. Some people had their stands and then went on vacation, so funds are still coming in. We add “and counting” because the total keeps growing!"

To share this incredible effort of Manitobans, Kwan and her team put together a great video showcasing many of the pictures of the 270 plus lemonade stands across the province.

"The total was $150,252 when we announced on the date of the video when we filmed it," she adds. "But it’s not too late if you had a stand or are still doing a stand—you can still submit funds."

Here at CJRB Radio we hosted our own Lemonade Stand for Hope at the Dunrea Flea Market and at last weekend's Streetfest, both events held in Boissevain.  Combining the two events we raised just over $1200 for the CancerCare Manitoba Foundation.  Next year we'll be returning to both events, with a goal to double that amount.

"A big thank you to your listeners and everyone who came out to the events in the Boissevain area," says Sherelle Kwan. "Cancer care isn’t just what happens in the city; this is Cancer Care Manitoba. When we say 270 stands, that means across our entire province."

"What excites me the most about this event is every community that says, “We did one, we had it at the lake, and we’re doing it.” I love seeing the way Manitoba can come together. I’m really, really proud of this province," she adds.
