The PCI Trojans, under head coach Brendon Brydges, are riding a wave of excitement after a promising start to their football season. Following a triumphant home opener, the team has experienced a mix of highs and lows, but the spirit of the team remains strong as they prepare for their upcoming match against St. Norbert.
In their opening game, the Trojans delivered an emotional win, marking a significant moment for many players who had never experienced victory before.
"We've been working hard after that first game. At the time we didn't really realize it, but a lot of those kids, they've never won a football game ever. So, they were really excited and it showed because they came out to work the week after that win and we had another big win against St. John's."
The momentum shifted, however, in their latest match, where some unfortunate circumstances prevented them from getting a third victory.
"We had a pretty good week of practice, but some unlucky bounces meant the game didn’t go our way. Still, there are plenty of positives to take away."
The coach has noticed a notable rise in leadership among one of his players, Grade 10 quarterback Kailum Chopp, who has embraced leading the offense and made it his own.
Looking ahead, the Trojans face St. Norbert this Thursday. St. Norbert recently secured its first win of the season.
"They're coming off their first win of the season and we're coming off of our first loss. So, we're coming on with a bit of a lull, and they're coming on with a high. It should be a good game. Hopefully, we're out there this week at practice and making sure we clean up those mistakes and get rid of those mental errors that we had last game."
The Trojans are poised for an exciting rest of the season as they gear up for their next challenges over the next few weeks. Kick-off is set for Thursday at 4:00 p.m.
