The Strathmore Skatepark was filled with skaters young and old for a 'Back to School' party.
The event was on Saturday (Sept. 21) and featured a skate jam, a 'silly skate' competition, and even live music. The party was put together by the group Skatemore Girls.
"It's a community-building event. I reached out to a bunch of different folks, and they all donated boards and different things to give out to the youth, especially to help them get another hobby," said Becca McDonald, owner of Skatemore Girls.
The event also featured a talk from Kyle Young-Pine, an Okotoks-based Indigenous skater who shared his story of recovery and love of skating to youth across the area.
"There's a documentary about his life and the stuff he's gone through," added McDonald.
There were skaters from as far as Drumheller and Calgary at the party. For those that don't skate, there were also rollerblades that attendees could rent out.
"The turnout's been huge. There's tons of people out."
Skatemore Girls meets at the Skatepark every Wednesday from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m.
