The Virden Oil Capitals meet the Waywayseecappo Wolverines tonight (7:30 p.m.) at Tundra Oil & Gas Place. Both teams are looking for their first win of the 2024-25 Manitoba Junior Hockey League season. Virden dropped a home-and-home to the Dauphin Kings this past weekend. The Kings beat the Caps 3-0 and 4-2. The Wolverines lost their home opener 6-0 to the Niverville Nighthawks.
The Canadian Hockey League announced Monday that five Western Hockey League clubs – the Brandon Wheat Kings, Kelowna Rockets, Lethbridge Hurricanes, Medicine Hat Tigers, and Spokane Chiefs – have officially submitted their formal written bids in an effort to secure the hosting rights for the 2026 Memorial Cup. The five will now be asked to formally present their bid before a selection committee...each of the bids will be evaluated based on four categories: business operations, local atmosphere/community engagement, event logistics, and hockey operations. Following the evaluation process, the winning bid is tentatively scheduled to be announced by the end of December 2024.
The Winnipeg Jets have agreed to terms with forward Cole Perfetti on a two-year contract with an average annual value in the NHL of $3,250,000. Perfetti, 22, set career-highs in points (38), goals (19), and games played (71) in 2023-24 with the Jets. The Whitby, Ontario native was Winnipeg's first-round pick (10th overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft and has recorded 75 points (29G, 46A) and 28 penalty minutes in 140 career games over the past three seasons with the Jets. Winnipeg will play its third of six pre-season games Wednesday against the Edmonton Oilers at Canada Life Centre.
Montreal's Felix Auger-Aliassime is heading back to the Davis Cup quarterfinals. He'll be joined by Denis Shapovalov of Richmond Hill, Montreal's Gabriel Diallo, Alexis Galarneau of Laval and Vasek Pospisil of Vernon when Canada takes on Germany in Malaga, Spain from November 19th-24th. The same group posted a 7-2 match record in group-stage play earlier this month.
This is the 24th straight season that there will not be a repeat World Series champion. The reigning champion Texas Rangers won't even be in the playoffs. They will instead finish with a losing record a year after winning the franchise's first title. The New York Yankees were the last team to win consecutive championships, three in a row from 1998 to 2000.
