The Rural Municipality of Woodlands is preparing to kick off a major milestone as the community moves toward its 150th anniversary of incorporation in 2030. October 4, at 1:30 p.m., the RM will break ground on Park150, a new park dedicated to honoring the municipality’s history and the people who shaped it.
Bryan Myskiw, a councillor for the RM of Woodlands and chair of the Park150 Committee, shared his excitement about the project.
“I do realize that this is just the beginning, as we have five years to fully see this to completion. But it's an exciting step on the way to marking the occasion.”
The groundbreaking event will bring together several high-profile dignitaries, including former Governor General and Manitoba Premier Edward Schreyer, former Lieutenant Governor Yvon Dumont, former Premier Greg Selinger, and former MLA Ralph Eichler. Each will make remarks and take part in a ceremonial tree planting.
The groundbreaking ceremony is the first of many steps for the park’s development. The full design is expected to be completed by early 2025, and the park itself will gradually take shape over the coming years.
“It will hopefully serve as an educational opportunity for younger members of the community, to learn about their own history and see these past dignitaries. But it will also serve as an opportunity to recognize community leaders and individuals who volunteered and who've been a part of the community for a while.”
Community members are invited to attend the ceremony at the Woodlands Community Hall, with a tree planting to follow at the future site of Park150. The event will also feature performances by Woodlands School, Woodlands Child Care, and local singer Charlize Huard.
