"We're a cross-country ski team, putting on a running race, on bike trails" was the quote from Race Director Cheryl Koop who along with a host of volunteers organized the second annual "Bell Ringer" this past weekend, a five-hour run/hike which took place on some private property in Thornhill on September 21st.
The race format was roughly a 5km single track trail, mostly dirt or grass and some rocks/stones, 100 meters of elevation per lap and the goal was to try and complete as many laps as your mind and body could handle over five hours!
About 70 racers competed in the event this year with the top racer completing 10 laps in the men's division with plenty of participants completing 9 laps and the top female racer finished 8 laps. Racers completed anywhere from 25-50km in those 5 hours.
Proceeds from event will be used to offset travel costs for the Boundary Trails Nordic Junior Development Team associated with racing out of province in Canada and the USA.
