The Portage Terriers are wrapping up preparations for their Orange Shirt Day Game on Sunday. Cody Buhler, the Terriers' Marketing Director, says that they're hoping for the community to buy in on their new effort.
"We're really excited about this. We are partnering with Arrowhead Development Corporation, they're the game sponsor, and we're encouraging out fans, in the spirit of Orange Shirt Day on September 30, we want fans to wear orange shirts to the game. We actually, this year, have created orange shirts. A local indigenous artist has created a redesigned Terrier logo for us, we've put it on orange shirts, and we'll be selling them for $30 each. A portion of the proceeds will be going to support the National Indigenous Residential School Museum."
Buhler adds that the shirts are in the store already and will be available for purchase before the game.
He also shared the purpose and some other plans for the game.
"In the spirit for the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we really wanted to participate in a big way, and we think this is a great step forward. We're looking forward to some of the other events and things we're going to be doing that day," Buhler continues. "We actually have a local drum group that's going to be coming out to perform before 'O Canada,' and there might be a few other things going on, and we'd really encourage our fans to come out."
The puck drops on Sunday afternoon against Selkirk at 3:30 p.m.
