Mounties say one woman is dead following an early morning crash on Highway 59 north of the Niverville turnoff.
The RCMP say in a press release that the collision occurred shortly after 6:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, near the intersection of Highway 59 and PTH 311.
According to the RCMP, a two-vehicle collision took place when a southbound vehicle, driven by a 44-year-old woman from New Bothwell, crossed the centre line and collided head-on with a northbound vehicle operated by a 52-year-old man, also from New Bothwell.
Police say the female driver was pronounced deceased at the scene, while the male driver was transported to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
St Pierre-Jolys RCMP are conducting an ongoing investigation into the crash, aided by an RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist.
Detours were in place for approximately four hours as emergency crews worked and police assessed the scene.
The RCMP says that more details will be provided as the investigation continues.
