The Village of Abbey was gathered under the big tent to celebrate a recent victory.
The BASF Growing Home competition saw communities competing to win $25,000 to put towards a local initiative.
When Abbey won this contest back in May, it was confirmed that the money would be going towards the local curling rink for a rebuild of the ice plant.
BASF came to Abbey this past Saturday and held a free supper with music and games for families before the beer gardens started up later in the evening.
Jenn Biensch, the economic development officer for the Village of Abbey, was happy to see people coming out despite the forecast shifting from 25 C and sunny, to only 19 C and cloudy.
"We were the only winners in Saskatchewan," said Biensch. "BASF put this party on for us to celebrate and to thank everybody for all their voting and for supporting this and for helping us bring it home."
Brenda's Inn out of Pennant catered the meal, which was a brisket dinner. Kids were able to enjoy some games with their parents and friends, while The Heat Strokes played music late into the evening.
Jessica Smith, president of the Abbey Curling Club, received a cheque presentation with Biensch from BASF representatives. The actual money had been sent months ago, with the big cheque being handed over as part of the night's fun.
"We had huge support from all the surrounding communities," said Smith. "So we hope to see lots of people from the region coming today so we can thank them."
The Abbey Curling Rink consists of three sheets of ice. The work on the ice plant is predicted to be complete, pending no issues arise, by the start of the winter season in time for regular curling activities.
