The PCI (Portage Collegiate Institute) Trojans football team has significantly impacted the life of one of its most passionate supporters, Dylan Wilson, a Grade 10 student with a deep passion for football.
Brendon Brydges, the head coach of the football team, reflects on their journey together since Dylan joined the school last year.
"Dylan came to PCI last year in Grade 9, and I was lucky enough to have him in my homeroom. He has a huge passion for football, and I wanted to help him feel connected to the team. Last year, Dylan came to our home games and attended some practices. Just being a part of the team has been wonderful for him."
The camaraderie among the players has been notable, according to Brydges.
"The guys have really embraced him. When you see Dylan in the halls, the football players greet him like a little brother, making him feel like a valued part of the team and the school culture."
Dylan's dad, Dave Wilson, expressed his pride in his son's involvement with the team.
"It's awesome to see him a part of the PCI Trojans. Coach Brydges was Dylan's homeroom teacher last year and asked if he wanted to be part of the team on the sidelines. He’s a big Bomber fan, and being around the players has been a fantastic experience for him."
When asked how Dylan feels about being part of the team, Dave shared.
"He knows he's part of the team and is always ready for game day. There's no ego with him; he just loves being included. The support from the coaches and players has been evident, with team members actively engaging with Dylan before and after games."
Dylan himself expressed his excitement, saying.
"It's good. I like offence!"
The bond between Dylan and the Trojans demonstrates the power of inclusion and community spirit in sports.
