The Zone 4 Cross Country Championships took place Tuesday at Stephenfield Park. The varsity first place finishers were Kate Sawatzky of Miller & Nate Phillips of Caman. Junior varsity winners were Alina Wiens of MCI & Cruz Rutledge of Morden. The Middle Years first place finishers were Jamie Breukelman of Dufferin Christian & Colin Klessens of Parkside. As for team results - Miller girls & Morden boys were first in varsity; Sanford girls and Morden boys were first in JV and Dufferin Christian girls and Parkside boys finished in top spot in Middle Years. Morden Collegiate captured the aggregate team banner. The Provincials will be held next Wednesday in Clearwater.


The Zone 4 High School Soccer playoffs begin today. Garden Valley will meet Miller in Altona and Morden hosts Dufferin Christian in the girls semifinals. Miller visits Morden in the boys semifinal. Morris/St, Jean will face Roseau Valley in Morris in the Tier Two girls semifinal while Dufferin Christian will take on Morris/St. Jean in Carman and Roseau Valley will meet Shevchenko in Vita in the Tier Two boys semifinals. All four finals are scheduled for Thursday. 


Brady Craik and Jayce Legaarden did the goal scoring and Liam Ernst made 30 saves as the Winkler Flyers blanked the Dauphin Kings 2-0 at Credit Union Place. The Flyers (2-2) will begin a four-game homestand Sunday when they face the Portage Terriers at the ICON Arena. 


The Manitoba Junior Hockey League and the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League are joining forces to present the Western All-Star Showcase in Warman, SK. This pivotal event will serve as a pre-selection camp for Team Canada West who will compete in the World Junior A Challenge in Camrose, AB this December. The Western All-Star Showcase, set to take place from November 4th to 6th in Warman will serve as a highly competitive pre-selection camp for Team Canada West. Forty of the top 19U prospects from the MJHL and SJHL (20 players from each league) will compete in on-ice sessions and game play during the event in front of Team Canada West staff and scouts from all higher levels of hockey.  The event will provide players from the MJHL and SJHL an amazing opportunity to showcase themselves in front of many scouts while trying to earn an invite to the Team Canada West selection camp (30 players will be invited from the western CJHL leagues) being held in Calgary in December.


The Brandon Wheat Kings are 10th in the Canadian Hockey League Top-10 Rankings. The Wheat Kings are 3-1 to start the 2024-25 Western Hockey League season. The Brampton Steelheads (OHL) are number one followed by the Medicine Hat Tigers (WHL), London Knights (OHL) and Moncton Wildcats (QMJHL). 


The Winnipeg Jets will play their fifth of six exhibition games tonight (7 p.m.) against the Calgary Flames at Canada Life Centre. The Jets and Flames will also meet Friday in Calgary to end the pre-season schedule. 


The Professional Women's Hockey League's six teams will participate in mini-camps in preparation for the upcoming season. The Montreal Victoire, Boston Fleet and Ottawa Charge will assemble at Montreal's Verdun Auditorium and Toronto Sceptres, Minnesota Frost and New York Sirens at Toronto's Ford Performance Centre for training sessions and pre-season scrimmages from November 19th to the 22nd. The league has yet to announce its regular-season schedule for its second campaign.
