The La Broquerie Habs won their first Capital Region Junior Hockey League regular season game on Sunday against the Selkirk Fisherman 1-0.
Habs goalie, Jaxon Loewen stayed strong in the net and says it was shot after shot.
“The first period, we played a solid game and I'm like, ‘Oh, we have like a solid chance of winning’. We came out of that period 1-0, and then started letting off the gas. And then second and third period, I just had to keep us in the game and hope for the best and ended up playing one of the best games of my life.”
The 19-year-old from Steinbach saved 47 shots, making it a memorable game for the team and the fans!
He shares that staying calm is important and it also frustrates the opponents.
“I just keep try to keep my head in the game. Sing along to some songs, put a smile on my face. Get a sip of water every once in a while.”
Loewen shares that when he heard that final buzzer, he was immediately mobbed by his teammates.
“I was wanting to do a little bit of a ‘celly’, but they came so fast I didn't have time.”
He explains that going into the season, he was not sure where he wanted to play but that changed quickly.
“Our first exhibition game, we completely packed up with the building and right from then on, I knew that this is where I wanted to play, great atmosphere to play in.”
The team heads into the season after a strong start.
Loewen says the team will practice tonight to prepare for their game on Friday in Beausejour against the Comets.
