Earth Wind & Fire didn't appear, but Environment and Climate Change Canada says there were many nights to remember in Portage la Prairie last month.
The city experienced its second warmest September in 131 years, barely missing out on the all-time record for the month set in 2009. Portage recorded a mean of 17.8 C, leaving the 2009 record of 18.0 C standing still at the top of the podium.
Warning preparedness meteorologist Natalie Hassell tells PortageOnline this was due to a repeated occurrence of upper-level ridges over the area, which are defined by hot air centred in Texas, New Mexico and California.
"These ridges were very much defined by hot temperatures at the surface, and they sat over the prairies quite regularly this September. People got to see a number of very summer-like days well past the end of the calendar season."
There were some very windy days, the month will be recognized for the warmth, says Hassell
"For the vast majority of the month, the temperature was well above normal," she continued. "It is nice to talk about relatively benign weather from time to time. A lot of people will enjoy this, and even the people who prefer fall to summer.'
She notes that things look to be above seasonal this weekend as well. For the current conditions and the five-day forecast, click here.
