The Ontario government has released instructions to download your vaccine QR code along with the Verify Ontario app.

Your QR code will give you access into businesses such as restaurants and movie theaters.

For a smoother transition for Ontarians to download their QR code, the government has laid a download plan based on your birth month.

  • January to April: October 15
  • May to August: October 16

  • September to December: October 17

On Monday, October 18, 2021, at 6:00 a.m all Ontarians will be able to download their QR code. Individuals can also call the Provincial Vaccine Contact Centre at 1-833-943-3900 to have their enhanced vaccine certificate emailed or mailed to them.

The official start date of the enhanced vaccine certificate will be October 22, 2021.

“I want to thank every Ontarian for their patience and cooperation as we’ve implemented our proof of vaccination policy,” said Premier Doug Ford. “The enhanced vaccine certificates and Verify Ontario app will give our businesses further comfort in their ability to operate safely as we take further steps to protect people’s privacy. These certificates remain a key element of our plan to protect the gains we have made while avoiding future lockdowns.”

The Verify Ontario app has been released as well allowing businesses to scan people's QR code to see whether a person is cleared to enter.

There will be three possible results once the QR code is scanned:

  • Green checkmark, which means verified
  • Yellow warning, which means there is a problem

  • Red “X”, which means the proof of vaccination is invalid

The Verify Ontario app will be able to read QR codes from Ontario, British Columbia. Quebec, and the Yukon.
