Gimli RCMP responded to a vehicle fire on Tuesday after receiving a report of a rolled-over pickup truck consumed in flames on Highway 222 near Road 127 North in the RM of Bifrost.
Upon arrival, officers reportedly discovered that the vehicle was unoccupied, but a man was found walking away from the scene about half a kilometre north of the truck's location.
The individual, was later identified as a 30-year-old man from the area. Police determined he was impaired and was subsequently arrested for Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Leaving the Scene of a Collision. During the arrest, he resisted and was charged accordingly.
Shortly after, RCMP noted that a woman arrived at the scene and displayed signs of impairment. Although a breathalyzer test indicated a warning level of blood alcohol content, officers escorted her home.
The cause of the vehicle fire is currently under investigation, as it is not believed to be the result of a collision.
