The Wheatland Lodge and Hospice project has failed to secure funding from the provincial government.
At the Wednesday (Oct. 2) council meeting, a letter from Jason Nixon, minister of seniors, community, and social services, was presented.
"Department staff have carefully reviewed and considered each application, and I regret to inform you that the Wheatland Lodge and Hospice project was not selected for funding," wrote Nixon.
Despite this, Nixon urged the Town of Strathmore to re-submit their application for future funding.
The Wheatland Lodge and Hospice project proposes building a 120-bed living space, including three to six dedicated hospice areas throughout Strathmore.
"We will work with operators and municipal governments to improve existing seniors' lodges to better accommodate more residents and make them attractive to future residents," said Nixon.
The project has been in the works for several years and comes with an estimated cost of around $65 million.
