The Westman Wildcats play their 2024-25 Manitoba Female U18 AAA Hockey League season opener tonight in Morden against the Pembina Valley Hawks. The Wildcats play their home opener Sunday in Souris against the Interlake Lightning.


The Winnipeg Jets play their sixth and final exhibition game tonight when they meet the Flames in Calgary. The Jets placed defenseman Simon Lundmark and forwards Axel Jonsson-Fjallby, Mason Shaw & Dominic Toninato on waivers for the purpose of assignment of the Manitoba Moose. Goaltender Thomas Milic along with defensemen Tyrel Bauer & Dmitry Kuzmin were assigned to the Moose.


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers face the Hamilton Tiger-Cats tonight at Tim Hortons Field. Winnipeg (9-6) is riding a seven-game win streak and have won three in a row on the road. The Blue Bombers have not made a single change to their depth chart this week but the status of slotback Nic Demski is a game time decision. Winnipeg will clinch first place and a bye to the West Division final with a win over the Tabbies and a Saskatchewan loss to the Edmonton Elks on Saturday. Winnipeg will clinch a home playoff game if the Riders and BC Lions lose this weekend. The Lions host the Calgary Stampeders tonight.


Kaitlyn Lawes and Matt Dunstone both lost A Event qualifiers Thursday night at the Grand Slam of Curling's Tour Challenge in Charlottetown. Lawes fell 7-4 to Eun Ji Gim while Dunstone dropped a 7-5 decision to Brad Jacobs. Dunstone will meet Mike McEwen and Lawes will take on Kerri Einarson in B Event qualifiers. Einarson defeated Anna Hasselborg 7-1. Chelsea Carey downed Delaney Strouse 10-1 and is still alive in the C Event. Reid Carruthers lost his third straight 6-2 to Cameron Bryce and was eliminated.


The Republic of Korea maintains the team lead following two rounds at the 2024 World Junior Girls Golf Championship at Credit Valley Golf & Country Club in Mississauga. The Republic of Korea has a four shot lead on Team Canada 1 heading into Friday’s third round. Korea was led by Soomin Oh who was 4-under par 68 Thursday to move to 7-under following 36 holes and now leads the individual championship.
