The Unity High School Warriors football team took to the field in a bold new look Thursday night, trading their usual black and red jerseys for pink as they faced off against Eatonia. The change wasn't just about style but a show of solidarity and support for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. In more ways than one, the Warriors came away winners, both on and off the field.
Head Coach Kyle Clark explained the significance behind the switch. "October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and a lot of teams around the province run pink games. This year, we decided, since we play so many pink games and we're getting new jerseys, why not just get pink jerseys for the month of October?" he said. "For a home game last week, we donated our 50/50 proceeds to the Canadian Cancer Foundation, and we'll be playing in pink for the rest of the month."
The decision to wear pink jerseys was met with enthusiasm by the players, who were excited to don the new uniforms. "The boys were really pumped to wear the pink jerseys," Coach Clark said
The Warriors not only showcased their strength and determination on the field but also demonstrated a deep sense of community and commitment to a cause that touches so many lives. By raising awareness and contributing to the fight against breast cancer, they are showing that their victories extend beyond the scoreboard.
