The Manitoba Air Show was a resounding success, attracting many spectators. As a result, the proceeds garnered were distributed to four organizations.
Manitoba Air Show Board of Directors member Colby Orchard explained that four separate $35,000 donations were made to military charities, which is especially significant as 2024 marks the centennial of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF).
"The four military charities that we supported this year are the Military Family Resource Centre, the RCAF Foundation, the Air Cadet League, and Soldier On," Orchard said. "It was an afternoon ceremony we held in Southport, and we invited some of our key sponsors and stakeholders for the show."
Orchard described the event as one that highlighted the donations, but during the ceremony, they also dedicated a newly restored Beechcraft Model 18 Expeditor.
"We actually have it mounted on a pole down the Main Street of Southport. In commemoration of the RCAF 100, we dedicated it to those who lost their lives in the service of the RCAF over the last 100 years."
He added that the air show was a wonderful opportunity to support these organizations.
"There was a lot of fun had over the weekend, but really, to come out of it and be able to support these organizations is significant. It really is amazing."
