The Strathmore Spartans boys football team has taken home their first win of the season.
The Spartans were on a heavy losing streak of five games in a row since the start of the season. However, on Thursday's (Oct. 3) game against the Crescent Heights Cowboys, the Spartans turned things around.
"I didn't think we had the best week of practice," said head coach Danny Warrack. "We had a short week with lots of guys banged up, and a few guys missing."
Warrack said that the game started competitive, with the Spartans up 17-4 by halftime.
"There were times I thought we dominated, and sometimes we let them slip back," added Warrack. "We went into halftime feeling pretty good about ourselves."
With a few touchdowns from rookie players, the Spartans won the game 59-13. According to Warrack, three players got their first-ever high school touchdowns.
"It was a very competitive game, which I like. Those are the types of games that we need to be playing in."
The game was initially set for Friday but was pushed forward due to referee availability.
The Spartans' next game is on October 11 against the Bowness Trojans.
