The Pembina Valley Hawks lost their 2024-25 Manitoba Female U18 AAA Hockey League home-opener Friday night. Pembina Valley gave up three first period goals and fell 4-1 to the Westman Wildcats. Hayden Arkle scored the lone goal for the Hawks. Pembina Valley netminder Kasia Rakowski made 17 saves. The Hawks next game is today (5 p.m.) against the Winnipeg Avros in Morden.
Carson Bjarnason made 32 saves and the Brandon Wheat Kings defeated the Edmonton Oil Kings 3-1 at Westoba Place. Matteo Michels, Jaxon Jacobson and Roger McQueen with his seventh of the season did the goal scoring for the Wheat Kings.
The Winnipeg Jets wrapped up their six-game exhibition schedule Friday night in Calgary. Kyle Connor scored the go-ahead goal with 3:09 left as the Jets beat the Flames 3-2. Nino Niederreiter and Colin Miller also scored for Winnipeg. Connor Hellebuyck made 32 saves, The Jets will play their 2024-25 NHL season opener next Wednesday in Edmonton against the Oilers.
Brady Oliveira ran for 147 yards and a touchdown as the Winnipeg Blue Bombers defeated the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 31-10 at Tim Hortons Field. Zach Collaros threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Kevens Clercius and back-up quarterback Terry Wilson added two short td runs for the Bombers who have won eight in a row and improved to 10-6. Winnipeg will clinch first place and host the CFL’s West Division final by winning one of its remaining two games or if the Saskatchewan Roughriders lose to the Edmonton Elks on Saturday.
