The Steinbach Pistons blanked the Northern Manitoba Blizzard 4-0 Friday night at OCN. Christian Green stopped 24 shots in recording the shutout. Brody Green, Reece Gault, Brayden Berg and Shane Burns scored second period goals for the Pistons. Avery Laliberte scored the lone Nighthawks goal in Niverville’s 3-1 loss to the Virden Oil Capitals at Tundra Oil & Gas Place.


The defending Capital Region Junior Hockey League champion St. Malo Warriors downed the Arborg Ice Dawgs 10-2. Ashton Cure had a hat trick and Brady Gregoire had a five-point night with two goals and three helpers for the Warriors. Cash Clarkson had two goals and an assist as the Beausejour Comets beat La Broquerie 5-2. Colton Pakoo and Connor Tallaire scored for the Habs.


Carson Bjarnason made 32 saves and the Brandon Wheat Kings defeated the Edmonton Oil Kings 3-1 at Westoba Place. Matteo Michels, Jaxon Jacobson and Roger McQueen with his seventh of the season did the goal scoring for the Wheat Kings.


The Winnipeg Jets wrapped up their six-game exhibition schedule Friday night in Calgary. Kyle Connor scored the go-ahead goal with 3:09 left as the Jets beat the Flames 3-2. Nino Niederreiter and Colin Miller also scored for Winnipeg. Connor Hellebuyck made 32 saves, The Jets will play their 2024-25 NHL season opener next Wednesday in Edmonton against the Oilers.


Brady Oliveira ran for 147 yards and a touchdown as the Winnipeg Blue Bombers defeated the Hamilton Tiger-Cats 31-10 at Tim Hortons Field. Zach Collaros threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Kevens Clercius and back-up quarterback Terry Wilson added two short td runs for the Bombers who have won eight in a row and improved to 10-6. Winnipeg will clinch first place and host the CFL’s West Division final by winning one of its remaining two games or if the Saskatchewan Roughriders lose to the Edmonton Elks on Saturday.


Kerri Einarson and Kaitlyn Lawes have qualified for the women’s quarterfinals at the Grand Slam of Curling's Tour Challenge in Charlottetown. Matt Dunstone will face John Shuster in a men’s C Event qualifier Saturday morning.


The defending champions have taken the lead after 54 holes, as Team Canada 1 has pulled ahead of the Republic of Korea at the 2024 World Junior Girls Golf Championship at Credit Valley Golf & Country Club in Mississauga. Canada leads by two with 18 holes remaining.
