Northlands Parkway swept Garden Valley 25-10, 25-11 in the final of the Nighthawk Invitational junior varsity girls volleyball tournament. The host Zodiacs beat Steinbach Christian 23-25, 25-18, 15-6 in the final of the Garden Valley junior varsity boys volleyball tournament. Morris/St. Jean defeated Miami 25-23, 27-29, 15-12 in the championship game of the Red River Invitational varsity boys volleyball tournament. Portage Collegiate swept Miami 25-21, 25-22 in the final of the Morden Thunder varsity girls volleyball tournament. The host Broncos defeated Elm Creek 25-23, 25-15 in the final of the Boissevain varsity girls volleyball tournament. Steinbach Regional won the Morris Mavericks Invitational High School Hockey Tournament. The Sabres shaded College Jeanne-Sauve 2-1 in the championship game.


The Winkler Flyers opened their four-game homestand with a 4-1 victory over the Portage Terriers. Niklas Gudmundson, Blake Matheson and Will Brophy scored power play goals for the defending Manitoba Junior Hockey League champions. Brady Craik had the other Winkler goal. Liam Ernst made 25 saves. The Flyers next game is Saturday against the Swan Valley Stampeders. 


The Pembina Valley Twisters were outshot 53-23 and lost 5-1 to the St. Boniface Riels. Slade Sotheran had the lone goal for the Twisters. The Riels led 2-0 and 3-1 at the period breaks. 


The Pembina Valley Hawks gave up three goals in the second period and three more in third and dropped a 6-2 decision to the Eastman Selects. Jessica Anderson had both goals for the Hawks who went 0-3 at home on the Manitoba Female U18 AAA Hockey League's opening weekend. 


The Manitoba Moose have assigned forward Ryan Chyzowski and defenseman Darick Louis-Jean to the hockey club's ECHL affiliate, the Norfolk Admirals. Forwards Sean Montgomery and Sang Hoon Shin along with blueliners Josh McDougall, Andrew McLean and Carson Musser have been released from their tryout agreements and will report to Norfolk. Manitoba's current roster stands at 25 players including 14 forwards, eight defensemen and three goaltenders.


Kerri Einarson and Bruce Mouat captured the Grand Slam of Curling's Tour Challenge in Charlottetown. Einarson, Val Sweeting, Dawn McEwen & Krysten Karwacki defeated reigning world champion Rachel Homan 5-4 in the women's final. It's the sixth Grand Slam of Curling title for Einarson. Mouat bounced defending Canadian champion Brad Gushue 10-3 in the men's final.
