When the WCS Eagles football team travelled to Moose Jaw Saturday, they not only had to contend with the Central Cyclones to get a win but the wind as well, with gusts upwards of 90 kilometres an hour. The wind would play a factor in the game, but so did the Eagles' defence, as they stymied the Cyclones en route to a 24-2 win.

The wind all but prevented punting in the game, with both teams going with third-down games for much of the game. One of those gambles early would pay off for the Eagles, as Maddow Taillon caught a third-down pass from Nolan Uhren and took it 58 yards for the major. The touchdown, and extra point, would be the only points scored in the first half.

In the second half, the Cyclones had the wind to their back and managed to get to the Weyburn 5-yard line. The defence, though, would get the stop, holding the score at 7-0. On the ensuing possession, though, the wind would hold the Eagles from being able to move the ball, and they conceded a safety to make it 7-2.

With the teams switching sides for the 4th quarter, the Eagles would force Central to give up a safety themselves and went up 9-2. Then, the Eagles blew the game wide open. Spencer Bell would score on a 30-yard run, and Jarret Hayward caught a 30-yard pass from Uhren to put Weyburn up 23-2. Tace Odima would add a rouge when a kickoff went through the Cyclones' endzone.

With the win, the Eagles have secured second place in the SHSAA South Rural League standings and will play either Yorkton or Central in the first round of the playoffs on October 19th, at Darold Kot Field. Before that game, though, the Eagles will close out their regular season this coming Saturday.

The final game of the regular season will have WCS taking on the Estevan Comprehensive Elecs at Darold Kot Field. Kickoff for the game is at 1 p.m.
