Performance Insights
As the season comes to a close, Jordan Driedger — the director of Community services for the city of Winkler — shared some insights into the performance of the local campground and aquatic center.
While Driedger reported that the campground had a solid season, the numbers were slightly down compared to the previous year, “Mostly due to less long-term campers. And we hosed fewer tournaments than in 2023 but overall, it was a really good season, and the campers seem to really enjoy their time at the campground.”
Recent Upgrades
Driedger also shared recent upgrades to the campground washrooms having already wrapped up — which included stainless steel seats and countertops, and that looking ahead, exciting things are on the horizon for the site.
Future Expansion Plans
The city also has plans for expanding the campground, with a vision to add more 15 and 30 amperage sites. “We do have some long-term plans of eventually expanding that campground... increasing our power and increasing our site size as well.”
Driedger noted that the campground’s locations to nearby community facilities, like the pool, main park, Meridian Center, and sports pitches are one of the major draws to the area, saying “The location of the campground offers a lot of value... so there have been different ideas... but there is some hope that within the next few years we can look at ways to upgrade the campground.”
