Winkler Flyers goaltender Liam Ernst is a Manitoba Junior Hockey League Star of the Week. The 19-year-old White City, Saskatchewan native posted a 39-save performance as the defending Turnbull Cup champions shutout the Kings 2-0 in Dauphin before turning aside 25 of 26 against the Portage Terriers in a 4-1 victory on home ice to end the week.


The Selkirk Steelers are number two in the Canadian Junior Hockey League's Top 20 Rankings. The Steelers have reeled off eight straight wins to start the 2024-25 Manitoba Junior Hockey League season. The Steinbach Pistons (5-1) are ranked ninth. The Central Canada Hockey League's Rockland Nationals (8-0) remain the number one ranked team in the country. 


The Canadian Hockey League has announced the coaching staff that will lead Team CHL at the 2024 CHL USA Prospects Challenge. The latter is a new event that will see the top first-year NHL draft-eligible prospects from the CHL face off against USA Hockey’s National Team Development Program Under-18 Team in a two-game series on November 26 in London and November 27 in Oshawa. Kris Mallette (Kelowna Rockets / WHL) will lead Team CHL as its head coach, while Gordie Dwyer (Acadie-Bathurst Titan / QMJHL) and Ryan Oulahen (North Bay Battalion / OHL) will join him on the bench as assistant coaches. All three recently helped Team Canada to a third consecutive gold medal at the 2024 Hlinka Gretzky Cup this past August.


The Winnipeg Jets have assigned forwards Nikita Chibrikov and Brad Lambert to the Manitoba Moose. The Jets will play their 2024-25 National Hockey League season opener against the Oilers in Edmonton on Wednesday. 


The search is on for a new Canadian senior women's basketball coach. Canada Basketball says it has mutually agreed to part ways with Victor Lapena. He guided the team to a winless record at the Paris Olympics last summer. Lapena spent almost three years in the role.
