A strike that would have seen thousands of health care support workers walk off the job Tuesday morning has been postponed.

At 4:25 Tuesday morning, the CUPE and MGEU bargaining teams reached a tentative deal which CUPE says will see significant improvements. The unions say they will contact union members with details of the agreement and when they can vote.

Both unions say they will be arranging information sessions over the next number of days leading up to the vote. Both CUPE and MGEU are recommending acceptance of the tentative agreement.

"Thank you to all members for your support, strength, and solidarity throughout this process," wrote CUPE in a statement. "Your mobilization and action helped to achieve a tentative agreement that will see significant improvements to your wages and working conditions."

The unions were fighting for better wages and working conditions for their members, which they say they have achieved in their tentative agreement.
