SaskAbilities has some exciting new technology being implemented.

In the modern age, the training of employees is something that continues to evolve. The same thing is happening at SaskAbilities, which has been utilizing Virtual Reality.

During a presentation at Swift Current City Council on Sept. 30, 2024, Dillon Currie, community connector for SaskAbilities, was able to shed some light on how they are helping their clients find meaningful employment with training on these new devices.

"I'm excited to introduce you to a new tool at SaskAbilities Partners and Employment," said Currie.

The program is the Career Exploration Technology Project. Funded by the Canadian Association of Supported Employment, the VR program simulates real-world jobs and scenarios. This gives people the chance to get simulated first-hand experience in advance of their application to the job.

"It provides job seekers with a dynamic, safe and educational way to explore different careers, to develop new skills, and to make informed decisions about their employment paths via our technology," said Currie.

Currently, there are 30 simulations available for people to experience via the 'Body Swaps' program. These simulations help them to form 'personalized action plans', giving them a leg up in the search for work.

"This allows job seekers to practice essential workplace skills like public speaking, conflict resolution, interview techniques, teamwork, communication, and more," said Currie. "All skills that are critical for long-term success in any job or career."

SaskAbilities is working with Melcher Media Group, which is based out of Regina. They are currently working to expand the amount of different programs available, increasing the training opportunities for clients. Those programs are being tailor-made for the Saskatchewan job market.
