Registration is open for the Weyburn Curling Club’s 2024 season. Manager for the Weyburn Curling Club, Jim Nikolejsin, says there are some new developments from last year.
“For the first time in a few years, we're going to have a full-time kitchen. Lisa Knobloch of Lisa K Catering is going to be the assistant manager at the club and run the catering business out of the kitchen, which means we will have a kitchen here full time.”
Steps have also been taken to make the sport more accessible.
“On Thursday afternoons, we had some wheelchair participants. With the help of Jerry Minill Limited, he's built some ramps for us this year. We're hoping that takes off on Thursday afternoons at one o'clock.”
The leagues on the other hand have mostly remained the same according to Nikolejsin. The Regular Open League runs on Mondays and Thursdays at 7 p.m. for all skill levels. Monday also hosts Learn-to-Curl for children grades two to nine at 4 p.m. The fees are subsidized by the Weyburn Oilmen's Association.
Tuesdays at 1 p.m. is the Drop-in/Stick League with a $5 feel, open to all skill levels. Then at 7 p.m. is the Family League costing $200 to register the team.
Wednesdays at 7 p.m. is the Vortex MegaDry Cleaning Open Cash League for more advanced players, running for half the season.
Thursday hosts the Senior League at 1 p.m. with $5 drop in open for all skill levels.
Friday is the Farmers and Friends League, open to all skill levels. The weekends are kept open for Bonspiels and other bookings.
Registration is open now HERE. There is also a live registration event tonight.
“We have an in-person registration tonight in the Young Fellows Lounge upstairs at the rink from 6:30 until 8 o'clock tonight for anybody that would require some help registering.”
More information can be found on the Weyburn Curling Club Facebook. Their office will be open on October 15th.
“We’re always looking for new members. Any questions can certainly call the rink.”
