In a challenging game on Wednesday, October 9, The PCI Trojans football team faced a tough defeat by the Fort Frances Muskies 23 – 18. Despite a shaky start, the team displayed a remarkable turnaround, scoring 12 unanswered points after halftime.
Coach Brendon Brydges noted a significant mentality shift at the end of the first half.
“We realized we could compete that second half.”
With their final regular-season game approaching, Brydges stressed the importance of practice and focus, balancing academic commitments with football.
Grade 12 player Deacon O’Ray echoed his coach's sentiments, reflecting on the team’s resilience.
“I was a little shell shocked at first,” he admitted, as the team fell behind in the first half.
However, the team rallied and improved significantly in the second half, showcasing their potential for the upcoming playoffs.
“We need to build on that momentum.”
O’Ray, who plays multiple positions on the field, expressed a strong desire to avoid another losing season. After a challenging 0-8 last year, he is determined to turn things around.
“I don't want to lose again with this team, I absolutely despise losing.”
O’Ray is hopeful that the team can carry their second-half energy into the playoffs.
Both Brydges and O’Ray highlighted the camaraderie among the senior players as a key factor in the team’s improved performance this year. With a solid commitment from players involved in multiple sports, the team is poised to make a significant impact as they enter the playoff season.
As they prepare for their next game, the focus remains on refining their strategy and maintaining the positive momentum built in the second half of their latest match.
The last regular season game for the Trojans is on the road against the Churchill Bulldogs on October 17.
