The Pilot Mound Pilots are Provincial A-AA-AAA High School Cross Country champions. Cole Landreville, Christian Caby, Maddox Ramage, Collin Friedrich, Gavin Hildebrand, Matsun Adams and Gavin Noseworthy captured the junior varsity boys championship banner. Landerville also finished first in the overall individual JV boys competition. Warren won the junior varsity girls championship banner; Westgate took the varsity boys while Miller Collegiate of Altona captured the varsity girls team competition. 


The Virden Oil Capitals scored four unanswered second period goals en route to a 5-1 victory over the Swan Valley Stampeders. Noel Englot scored twice for the Caps while singles went to Acoyen Fehr, Marshall Light and Daniel Tokariwski. Peyton Shore, who was assigned to Virden by the WHL's Red Deer Rebels earlier this week, stopped 21 of 22 shots in his Oil Capitals debut. The 16-year-old Winnipeg native was Virden's 7th round pick in the 2024 MJHL Prospects Draft. 


Mason Appleton had a goal and two assists and Connor Hellebuyck recorded his 38th career shutout as the Winnipeg Jets won their season opener 6-0 over the Edmonton Oilers at Rogers Place. Hellebucyk stopped all 30 shots he faced. Adam Lowry, Mark Scheifele, Rasmus Kupari, Dylan Samberg and Kyle Connor also scored for the Jets. Connor scored in Winnipeg's season opener for an NHL record seventh consecutive year. The Jets pulled away early in the second period when Kupari and Samberg scored in a 20-second span less than five minutes into the middle frame extending Winnipeg's lead to 4-0. The Jets play their home opener Friday against the Chicago Blackhawks. 


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have added American linebacker Bryce Notree and Amercian offensive lineman Chris Walker to the practice roster and released American quarterback Darren Grainger and American defensive lineman Brandon Wright. The Bombers (10-6) play their final regular season home game Friday night against the Toronto Argonauts. Winnipeg will clinch first place and earn a bye to the West Division final with a win over the Argos.
