A Winnipeg art sale held over the weekend to raise funds for grandmothers raising grandchildren in Africa was an overwhelming success.
On Oct. 6, 2024, Grands 'n' More Winnipeg, which aims to raise awareness within the broader community about the desperate plight of African grandmothers and their orphaned grandchildren, hosted its annual Art from the Attic sale at St. Vital Centre.
Over 3,000 art pieces, donated by the public, were available at the event, with many items priced under $50.
Hundreds of people attended the sale, bringing in thousands of dollars in sales.
"Wow! Because of you (shoppers, supporters, sponsors, VOLUNTEERS), we sold over 2,600 artworks and had over $40K in sales," said Grands 'n' More Winnipeg in a Facebook post. "It is so much fun seeing the delight of shoppers and especially gratifying when someone just loves what they found."
All funds raised will go to the Stephen Lewis Foundation Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign, providing funds to African grandmothers to use to provide care for their sick children and grandchildren.
