Crescent View School’s Grade 3 teachers, Sandra Patterson, and Allana Boschman, have inspired their students to reflect their gratitude through a unique project. With the Thanksgiving season upon us, students have been sharing what they are most thankful for, revealing insights into their values. Patterson says that the student insights have warmed her heart.
"Family has emerged as a significant theme in what the children are expressing. I've noticed they're not only thankful for their family but also for their peers and the environment. They've been thinking a lot about citizenship and responsibility, focusing on taking care of each other and the Earth."
Patterson's observations highlight the nurturing spirit of her classroom.
"I feel quite lucky this year to have such a compassionate group of students, and I’m thankful for how well they treat each other."
The project has provided a platform for students to articulate their gratitude. Grade 3 students from Patterson's class outlined what they are grateful for.
Abdul: "I am thankful for God for creating us."
Saumya: "I’m thankful for my name because my mom gave it to me."
Cash: "I am thankful for my family because they are always there for me."
Muhammad: "I'm grateful for my brother, because he makes me laugh sometimes."
Mia: "I am grateful for the sun. Its warmth brightens my day."
Next door in her grade 3 class, Allana Boschman has observed similar sentiments.
"This group is really thankful for the basic things in life: family, health, and looking out for one another."
Boschman also shared what she's thankful for.
"I'm thankful for my family and my health."
Boschman's students echoed the same spirit as Patterson's class.
Scarlett: I am thankful for my house because it gives me shelter
Devsya: "I’m thankful for my family because they love me no matter what."
Joelle: "I am thankful for Earth because without it, we would not be here."
Heath: "I'm thankful for Canada because it is a very safe country."
As the project nears completion, it's clear that the students at Crescent View School are learning valuable lessons about appreciation, community, and the importance of looking after one another. The reflections shared by the young learners not only warm the hearts of their teachers but also serve as a reminder of the simple joys in life.
