The Buffalo Pound Water Treatment Plant is now taking applications for two new members for their Board of Directors.
Board Chair, Patricia Warsaba, explains the qualities they are looking for in potential members.
“We are looking for people that are experienced with governance board matters and that have a business background of some sort. We have a fairly diverse skill set on the board right now, and so we're not targeting a specific profession, but just general board experience and expertise.”
If selected, members would serve for a minimum of a three-year term, up to a maximum of nine years, with multiple sub-boards and tasks to take part in.
“We have a total of six board meetings a year, plus two meetings with our stakeholders, our members, which are the two cities of Regina and Moose Jaw,” explained Warsaba.
“Board meetings are usually three to four hours. We have committee work in the community, we have a special committee right now for the capital project and then we have the Finance and Audit Committee and Governance and HR Committee.”
Warsaba says that being a board member is an important and fulfilling position, providing the opportunity to oversee the operations of a crucial service, and they pride themselves on being effective in doing so.
“We're a very strong board. We do a third-party review of our effectiveness each year. I think that people would enjoy being on the board because we do an important service for the city.”
Warsaba explains the process and timeline for applicants.
“We would then do a review of the applicants and shortlist it and do interviews in December or early January. Then our members, which are the city of Regina, and the City of Moose Jaw are going to appoint the person in the April annual general meeting.”
The deadline for applications is Oct. 31, 2024, and can be done online on the Buffalo Pound Water Treatment Plant website.
