For those who remember the CBS television show HEE HAW with it's country-bumpkin kind of humor and wit, with Buck Owens and Roy Clark telling jokes and singing up a good 'ol country folk tune, then you're going to enjoy Canadian Open and Grand Masters Fiddle Champion, Scott Woods' rendition with his 'Yee Haw!' stage show.
'Yee Haw!' is coming to Killarney at the end of October as a fundraiser for the Killarney United Church.
Scott Woods says 'Yee Haw' is a fun-filled, 2-hour live show, featuring lots of Canadian Old Time Fiddle tunes, favourite Country classics, instrumentals, sweet harmonies, sensational step-dancing, smooth vocals, lots of family humour, inspirational stories, and trick fiddling by Scott himself.
And what does Woods mean when he says trick-fiddling? He plays the fiddle behind his back, under his leg, walking on a barrel and during his iconic front running somersault, yup! all the while playing a tune on his fiddle!
Scott’s sister, Kendra Woods Norris, a champion fiddler in her own right, joins Scott on stage as well as the Canadian Open Step Dancing Champion, 20-year-old Leo “Spaghetti Legs” Stock. Between them, they play several instruments (fiddle, accordion, piano, drums), they sing and include silly costumes/characters in their act as well.
(If you can remember Minnie Pearl, well Kendra tends to play the part well, so we've been told!)
Accompanying them on guitar is “the Telecaster Master”, Steve Piticco, an amazing guitarist who will show his talents throughout the show. Kurk Bernard will be part of the band, playing bass guitar and singing country favourites as well.
Please listen to more with Scott Woods below as he shares the start to his fiddling career (at a tender age of 4-years-old) and how they came to play for charities and churches for local fundraisers. Scott Woods chats with our own Chris Sumner in the audio clips below.
Tickets to the October 28th stage show of 'Yee Haw!' can be purchased at the Killarney United Church office, Lewis & Jones and Killarney Home Hardware.
