The Miller Aces and Morden Thunder are Provincial A-AA-AAA High School Soccer champions. Miller defeated the Garden Valley Zodiacs 3-1 in the girls final while Morden shaded GVC 2-1 in the boys final Saturday in Minnedosa. Midfielder Lindsey Miller of the Aces and midfielder Elliot Haines of the Thunder were named the tournament MVP’s.


Jayce Legaarden scored two power play goals and Blake Matheson and Niklas Gudmundson had three assists each in the Winkler Flyers 7-2 victory over the Swan Valley Stampeders. Marek Miller, Will Brophy, Ethan MacTavish, Kam Thomas and Brody Beauchemin also scored for the Flyers who host the Portage Terriers Sunday night.


Ryler Gates made 33 saves as the Pembina Valley Hawks beat the defending Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League champion Brandon Wheat Kings 4-2. Gavin Rondeau, Paxton White, Haiden Friesen and Tegan Fehr did the goal scoring for the Hawks.


The Pembina Valley Hawks picked up their first win of the Manitoba Female U18 AAA Hockey League season Saturday in Morden. Jessica Anderson scored twice and Kasia Rakowski made 22 saves as the Hawks downed the Interlake Lightning 3-1. Emily Beattie also scored for Pembina Valley.


The Brandon Wheat Kings wrapped up their two-game Alberta road trip with a 5-3 loss to the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Nolan Flamand scored twice and drew an assist on Marcus Nguyen’s second period power play goal.


The Manitoba Moose opened the 2024-25 American Hockey League season with a 6-4 victory over the Iowa Wild. Nikita Chibrikov had a goal and two assists for the Moose.


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers quest to clinch top spot in the West Division will come down to the final week of the CFL’s regular season schedule. The Saskatchewan Roughriders bounced the BC Lions 39-8 Saturday night in Regina and moved within one point of first place Winnipeg. The Blue Bombers (10-7) and Riders (9-7-1) both have the Week 20 bye and will play their regular season finales Saturday, October 26th. Winnipeg will face the Alouettes in Montreal while Saskatchewan will host the Calgary Stampeders. A Blue Bombers win, or a Roughriders loss will give Winnipeg first place and bye to the West Division final.
