Fifty-four high school students from across Westman are participating in this year's Western Manitoba Youth Choir, and their concert tour begins in just a few days!
Board member Liesel Krahn says the choir is by audition in the spring and they spend two weekends of rehearsal at Camp Wannakumbac under the direction of Deanna Ginn (from Brandon) and Stuart Sladden (Winnipeg) accompanied by Danielle Guina (Brandon)
This is the 43rd season for the youth choir that traditionally sings a wide genre of music. This year the youth will be singing a variety of styles and cultures, including Indonesian folk songs, Scottish folk, French and Indigenous songs, and more.
On Saturday, October 19th, this talented and passionate group of young musicians will board the bus and start their tour of communities in the Westman area starting with Souris.
They also will be joining a provincial wide youth choir organized by the Manitoba Choral Association gathering and performing in Portage la Prairie on October 20th.
"One unique thing about this year's tour is they will be joining a provincial wide youth choir organized by the Manitoba Choral Association on the Sunday concert in Portage la Prairie on Sunday, October 20th," explains Krahn.
