The Steinbach Pistons six-game winning streak came to an end Sunday night at the Yellowhead Centre. The Neepawa Titans beat Steinbach 7-6 in overtime. James Fuchs scored the tying goal for the Pistons with 44 seconds left in regulation to send the game into OT. The Titans led 6-2 until Connor Paronuzzi scored a power play goal with nine seconds left in the second period. Noah Szabo, Cale Quamme and Fuchs then scored in the third period for Steinbach.
The Steinbach Huskies, Landmark Blues and Niverville Clippers were winners in the Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League Sunday night. Cody Neufeld had a hat trick and Brandon Thiessen had two goals and five assists as the Huskies outscored the East St. Paul Gators 8-6. Brandon Leblanc scored twice as the Blues beat the Macdonald Swarm 4-1 and Craig Lacasse had two goals and three assists as the Clippers downed the Grunthal Red Wings 8-3.
Gabriel Asselin and Chiefton Enns scored two goals each and the La Broquerie Habs bounced the Lundar Falcons 8-1. Colton Pakoo and Nathan Storoschuk also scored for the Habs who received a 46-save performance from Caleb Legal.
The Eastman Selects suffered their first loss of the Manitoba Female U18 AAA Hockey League season. The Selects dropped a 3-2 decision to the Westman Wildcats. Delainey Rigaux and Kaitlyn Schroeder did the goal scoring for the Selects.
The Winnipeg Jets have won three straight games to open the 2024-25 NHL season. Kyle Connor scored a power play goal 51 seconds into overtime to lift the Jets past the Minnesota Wild 2-1. Mark Scheifele also scored for Winnipeg. His fourth goal of the season with two seconds left in the first period directly off a face-off win and Connor Hellebuyck on the bench for an extra attacker tied the game at 1-1.
The Manitoba Moose edged the Iowa Wild 3-2. Mason Shaw scored the go-ahead goal for the Moose with 4:45 left in the third period.
Aaron Cockerill fired rounds of 68-68-69-69 and finished tied for 13th at the DP World Tour’s Open de France. The Stony Mountain native is in 43rd spot in the Race to Dubai rankings.
