The top two teams in the Winnipeg High School Football League's JV9 Division meet today at A.D. Penner Park. Steinbach Regional will take on the Miles Macdonell Buckeyes with the opening kickoff at 4 p.m. The Sabres and Buckeyes have identical 4-0 records. The SRSS will play its regular season finale next Wednesday in Winnipeg against the Vincent Massey Vikings. 


Gabrielle Roy defeated Warren 25-16, 25-15 in the final of the Red River Valley Invitational varsity girls volleyball tournament this past Thanksgiving long weekend. The St. Joachim Braves beat the Erickson Eagles 25-21, 25-8 in the final of the Warriors junior varsity girls volleyball tournament in Gladstone. St. Joachim swept the host Falcons 25-20, 25-23 in the final of the 
Immanuel Christian junior varsity boys volleyball tournament. 


The Selkirk Steelers and Steinbach Pistons are in the top half of the Canadian Junior Hockey League's Top 20 Rankings. The Steelers (10-1), who saw their season opening 10-game win streak come to an end this past weekend, dropped from number two to number three. The Pistons (6-1-1) stayed at number nine. The Central Canada Hockey League's Rockland Nationals (9-0) remain the number one ranked team in the country. 


Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck has been named the NHL's Second Star of the Week. Hellebuyck began the week with a 30-save shutout in a 6-0 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday in Winnipeg's season opener.  On Friday, the reigning Vezina Trophy winner stopped 25 of 26 shots in Winnipeg’s 2-1 overtime victory over Chicago in the Jets' home opener. Finally, Hellebuyck recorded 26 saves in Sunday’s 2-1 overtime win over the Minnesota Wild. The 31-year-old Commerce, Michigan native finished the week a perfect 3-0-0 with a 0.66 goals-against average and a .976 save percentage. 


Canada’s National Para Hockey Team earned a silver medal for the third consecutive year at the 2024 International Para Hockey Cup, falling 5-3 to the United States in the gold medal game on Sunday at Ostravar Arena. Auren Halbert (Calgary, AB), Dominic Cozzolino (Mississauga, ON) and James Dunn (Wallacetown, ON) scored for Canada in Sunday’s rematch of the 2024 World Para Ice Hockey Championship gold medal game. Canada finished the preliminary round with a 2-1 record, defeating Italy in its first game of the tournament, dropping its second game to the United States before wrapping up the preliminary round with a victory over Czechia. Canada earned its spot in the gold medal game with a 1-0 overtime win over Czechia in the semifinals on Saturday.


Canada's Shaun Meachem along with vice-skip Kelly Schafer, second Chris Haichert and lead Teejay Haichert have a 3-0 round robin record heading into day four at the 2024 World Mixed Curling Championship in Aberdeen, Scotland.
