The Portage Collegiate Institute (PCI) Saints hockey team is gearing up for an exciting season, kicking off today as they travel to Winnipeg to face the Beliveau Barracudas with high hopes and a strong veteran presence. Head Coach, Joanne Clark-Gillespie, expressed enthusiasm about the upcoming season after a productive preseason.

"We've been on the ice for a month and participated in our division alignment tournament, where we declared our intention to play in Division Three this year."

After finishing with a 2-1 record in preseason games, the Saints are eager to build on their experience from last year, which saw them compete in Division Two.

This season, the team boasts a solid core of Grade 11 and 12 players, with seven Grade 12's leading the way. Many of these seniors have been with Coach Clark-Gillespie for three to four years, fostering a strong sense of leadership and camaraderie.

"We really push for the Saints family concept, and these girls have a long season ahead of them."

The team also emphasizes community involvement, encouraging players to participate in initiatives like 'Break for Breakfast.'
