A strong finish to the season for the Weyburn Comprehensive School Eagles after a game on the weekend.
Heading into their final game of the regular season with a 4-1 record, the WCS Eagles football team entertained the Estevan Comprehensive School Elecs on Saturday. The Elecs entered the game with an 0-5 record.
Head Coach Jody Kerr said they held a special ceremony for the graduating players from each of the teams.
"Grade 12 players and their families were introduced and acknowledged for their contributions to their respective programs," he shared.
Kerr said the Eagles established an early lead in the game, with touchdowns from Spencer Bell, Vaughn Wendel, Haydin Buehler, and Nolan Uhren. Estevan would answer with a kickoff return touchdown by Jayden Smith to cut into the lead, but the Eagles would respond with touchdowns from Max Vennard before the half.
"The Eagles used the opportunity to get some game experience for the younger players in the second half," Kerr said. "Estevan took advantage and scored twice with Preston McGuire and Dorian Sifton scoring for the Elecs, but before the end, the Eagles would score one more time with Brody Walter getting the touchdown and lifting the Eagles to a 46-22 victory."
The Eagles are heading now into the playoffs with a league semi-final game when they host the Moose Jaw Central Cyclones on Darold Kot field this Saturday at 1 p.m.
The winner will take on the winner of the other semi-final, wherein Balgonie hosts Yorkton.
