Co-op Week has kicked off with different events each day to go along with their annual equity cheques being sent out to members.

While the cheques are never a guarantee, Homestead Co-op has been consistent over the years returning money to their members and this year is no exception. For many years, the cheques were issued in late November and early December but this year they will once again be a part of Co-op week. Over 5 million dollars is in the mail and should be arriving in mailboxes this week if they haven't already. The amount members receive in their cheques is based on a percentage of their purchases throughout the year.

Shannon Vaughan, Marketing and Communications Manager at Homestead Co-op, shares some other things that are happening.

"Co-op Week this year is October 13th to 19th. We're inviting our members to come and join our team in celebrating Co-op. We have cool contests and giveaways all week for our members. And new this year, we'll be sending out equity checks during Co-op week."

Vaughan adds that there are things going on at a few locations in the Portage area.

"At our Carmen and Portage food stores, we're going to be doing something called Taste the Co-op Difference. We'll be doing samples from all different departments like delicious deli cheese paired with fresh produce and drinks, so that people can see some new featured Co-op products that week."

Vaughan also adds there is a stipulation about getting involved in the events of the week.

"You do have to be a member. You can get a membership for $10.00 with no annual fees, and that's lifetime membership benefits. People can get applications either in store or online at homesteadco-op.crs."

Homestead Co-op has locations in Austin, Carman, La Salle, MacGregor, Oakville, Portage la Prairie and Treherne.
